One of my favourite projects that we did at Rachel Laxer Interiors is a family home for a young family. My clients had 3 children under the age of 4, which presented some interesting challenges, but also helped me make the point that you can live in a chic space even with kids!
We worked with quite a few existing pieces of furniture which helped to keep the interior design budget down for this young family.
The major focus was ensuring that the furnishings and finishes were soft and child friendly but still felt grown up.
For example we used this Roche Bobois coffee table in the living area, the little boy loved it, he thought it was a surfboard and even jumped on it a few times. The soft edges of this piece of furniture made it possible for the children to climb all over the piece.
To increase the storage in the bedroom, I used a pair of chests on each side of the bed instead of bedside tables. We also mounted mirrors on either side of the bed to increase the light in the room and to give the room a glamorous feeling.
The Hudson Desk is another favourite of mine in this project. We had the Rose Thorn table custom made so that it would work as a desk. We finished off the styling in the office space with antique maps to reflect the owner’s passion for travel.
Rachels design tip:
Go Green! A last note on styling; we used foliage throughout the property to style the space. This is a great tip for people who like to have big arrangements at home, but don’t always want the expense of buying large bouquets of flowers.
