Interior Designer Rachel Laxer invites us into her New York Home where she’s combined natural elements and modern furnishings to create a soothing and stylish sanctuary.
Tucked away in a leafy enclave of Westchester County in the state of New York, this luxury retreat is the US base of interior designer Rachel Laxer. “We found the house about five years ago and then undertook a major rebuilding project,” explains Rachel. “This is my New York family home, so it was tailored for me, my husband and our two daughters. I wanted to create a new home that felt lived in and renovated rather than a shiny new mansion. As I’m a designer, the project will never be complete and as my family and I grow, the home will continue to evolve.”Rachel’s background has a distinct bearing on her design work. She began her career as a commodities trader and then became a successful emerging markets trader at the firms of investment gurus George Soros and Michael Steinhardt. After relocating to Tokyo, she fell in love with Japanese architecture and developed a passion for design inspired by Japanese aesthetics. She studied privately with an art historian and architect in Japan, and was then hired in London by celebrated designer Kelly Hoppen who valued Rachel’s”East meets West” approach as well as her international experience and sourcing abilities.
